Viennasound®DigitalAudioWorkstation
System Introduction
|
|
The system of professional
digital audio recording, editing, processing and mixing "Viennasound®
DigitalAudioWorkstation"- is a
part of the "Viennasound Recording Center®" and consists of
powerful intergrated hardware (based on PC with high speed-Intel-CPU, special Digital
Processor Card, other options, providing sound input/output,
synchronization, etc.) and
several programs, realizing various methods of work with sound. It is the ideal production
tool for multitrack recording, radio program production, post processing,
jingle, film,
CD-mastering and HDTV. |
|
| Digital Multitrack Audio Editor for recording,
editing,
processing and uniting of multichannel sound. |
| Digital Stereo Station. It is used for work with
stereo/mono sound and realizes all collection of recording, editing and processing
operations. |
| Text-Archiving program. It is useful for getting text file
using recorded sound file. |
| Playlist program. It is used for compilation of compact
disc projects or master tapes which then can be recorded on the needed carrier using tape
recorder or CD-recorder. |
| Broadcasting program. |
|
Thus, Viennasound®DigitalAudioWorkstation
system includes full technological cycle of work with sound,
beginning with multichannel recording and ending with production of compact disc or
outputting programs on air.
|
| |
| |
Properties
|
|
|
|
| Easy to use graphic interface, similar to
real analog devices (buttons, knobs, faders, indicators, etc.) |
| Working with
"Viennasound® DigitalAudioWorkstation" system need no special knowledge of computer
and its operation system, you hadn't learn the work with DOS, files,
drives, directories,
etc. |
| All components of the system
are realized in a single program environment. There is no need to enter one program from
another for carrying out some actions and return after its fulfilling. The user enter the
program and get the possibility without leaving it to work on stereo or multichannel
station, with play list or text-archiving program - all are realized in a single user
interface. The training needs a minimum of time. |
| Operations can be done with the
help of trackball/mouse (by the principle "simply show and click") or with
keyboard, as all operations are tied with the defined buttons. All frequently used
operations are tied with the big buttons for more fast work with them. |
| Online help. By clicking on some
control button, in the status line you will have information about the operation of this
button. |
| Digital AES/EBU inputs/outputs. |
| 16 - 24 bit signal accuracy.
|
| SMPTE/EBU -Time Code
synchronization with video or other equipment. |
| Separated work spaces providing
work of several users or for several clients on the station. Special work space allows to
have access to all projects and sound data stored in the system.
|
| Work with removable hard disks (
mounting frame, removable media). Optical storage media connectible. |
| Possibility to copy sound from the
station onto extra removable carrier, network disk and in opposite
direction. Possibility
to copy sound into the station directly from CD (using CD-R or CD-ROM
drives). |
| Backup/Restore to/from usual DAT-recorder. Selective backup
(one project or work field only). |
| Modular architecture for future upgrades. |
| |
|
Viennasound Digital Stereo Station
|
|
|
|
Viennasound®-
Digital Stereo Station is used for recording, editing,
processing, mixing and
restoration of phonograms in sound recording studios, specifically designed for broadcast
news, program and advertisement editing and production at radio studios.
|
|
|
|
|

|
| |
Properties
|
|
| Graphical representation of
sound (amplitude against time). "Viennasound® DigitalAudioWorkstation"
system can represent waveform in numerous ways : in linear or logarithmic
scale, enveloped
or filled, one channel or several channels on the same axis, at last you can switch off
the waveform at all . You can choose which way is most convenient for
you. Picture your sound! |
| Fast displaying of the
waveform on the screen. You will not waste time, waiting for displaying of your
fragment. |
| "Viennasound®
DigitalAudioWorkstation" prepares the waveform of the sound fragment
during the recording process, therefore it takes about 5sec per half an hour of
sound. |
| Possibility of remembering of up to
12 versions of displaying point and instantaneous transition to it.
|
| Non-distructive editing.
Original sound is unchangeable on the disk, so it is always possible to compare current
result with the original. |
| Unlimited UNDO/REDO.
You always can cancel last operation and this way step by step come back to the very
beginning. Unlimited REDO allows to repeat your operations in the opposite direction
(for example, if you have cancelled some operation by mistake). UNDO/REDO can be done in group
mode. i.e. you see the list of all done and cancelled operations and choose the operation
until which you want to go forward or back. |
| Convenience of playback of sound fragments. You can playback the fragment from any point simply clicking
trackball/mouse
button at the needed place of waveform. You can playback the needed region of fragment in
the loop mode, in Mono, Stereo, left channel or right channel in both channels
modes.
Signal level is always indicated. You can also playback in the modes:
NORMAL-SPEED,
SHUTTLE or JOG. The latest two modes are useful for accurate determination of editing
points (speed of reproduction is changed by operator up to negative meanings
(reverse code). |
| Momentary transition to label.
While recording or reproduction of fragment you can set labels of two
types. Then you can
pass in a moment to the needed label or time-code. The number of labels is
unlimited.
Labels can be tied with time or concrete place on sound. |
| Editing with accuracy of a sample. Cutting,
copying, inserting, mixing, manual draw, editing of cross fades. |
| Multiwindow system. Each sound
fragment can be placed into the separate sound window, which allows to process many
operation on it. The number of such sound windows is practically unlimited
(more than 100
windows can be opened simultaneously). Thus you can work on rather complicated projects
which require fast access to many fragments and fast comparation of many
results.
Switching between windows is practically instantaneous. Windows are never
overlapped, they
are placed under each other. You can list windows as though text in text
editor, resize,
place in needed order. |
| Operations between windows. Any
sound fragment from any window can be inserted to or mixed with sound from any other
window (at least with itself). The ranges of sound and edit point is defined by
user. It
means that you can create master-tape in one window using fragments from other windows as
initial materials. |
| Possibility of simultaneous work
with MONO and STEREO sound fragments and with fragments of various sampling
frequencies.
System automatically makes the conversation. |
| Restoration of earlier cut fragment. After cutting the labels are set instead of cut
fragments. At any moment you can
audition cut fragments hidden by that labels and even restore any of them by a single
movement of trackball/mouse! |
| Cross fade Editor. While editing
digital sound some border effects appear inevitably (clicks). For removing such effects
and for more qualitative joint of two fragments the "Viennasound® DigitalAudioWorkstation"
system provides automatically cross fade at edit point. Length of cross fade
can be defined
by user in the ranges 0 - 5sec with precision of 0.001sec. The user can also determine
fade curve types (linear, logarithmic, sine, exponential, power) and its slope separately
for fade-in and fade-out. At any time any cross fade law can be
edited. You can first
audition edited cross fade region in real time with preroll and then change any
cross fade parameters. Due to this possibility you can ideally accurate make any complicated editing
(for example, joining of music with music). |
| Unlimited number of editing and
processing operations. Unlimited UNDO/REDO at any time helps you to cancel any number of
unsuccessful steps. |
Great number of sound processing operations.
|
Sound processing operations:
|
| 6-band Parametric
Equalizer. |
| 10-band Equalizer. |
| 30-band Equalizer. |
| 256-band phase-linear Equalizer with real time
spectrum analyzer. |
| Dynamic level control ( limiter + compressor +
expander + noise gate) with frequency characteristic and indicator of reaction |
| Manual level control |
| Fading. |
| Frequency fading. |
| Cross fade editor. |
| Mixing
|
| Stereobase expander. |
| Phase processor. |
| Time-corrector
|
| Tone-corrector
|
| Variator (alteration of tone and duration of
sound). |
| Echo-machine. |
| Earlier Reflection
Processor. |
| Manual draw. |
| Normalizer. |
| External processing . |
| Automatic pause canceller / cleaner /
marker. |
| Sample Rate Converter
|
| FRC-gauge. |
| Spectrum analyzer. |
| |
|
|

|
|
|
Declicker. |
| Denoiser. |
|
|
|
|
|
Adaptive Noise
Canceller. |
|
| All processing devices can process the
whole sound fragment as well as any part of it (one word, one letter), with different or
similar parameters for every channel. Most of the devices work in real time. There is the
mode "channel-channel" in which you can process sound without recording it on
hard disk using the station as an ordinary studio device of through sound
processing. All
processing devices have level and overload indicators for every
channel. |
| Sound window is always accessible.
Whatever processing operation you do, you always see window with waveform representation
of your sound and level indicator in it. All alterations are immediately seen on the
screen. You fully control the situation, as at any moment you can do editing operation or
UNDO/REDO and all these without leaving processing device. For example, you can enter
Equalizer and not leaving it carry out unlimited number of various editing and processing
operations (even mixing!) on any region of your sound fragment.
|
| Possibility to save presets of
processing devices. As all processing devices, as a rule, have many parameters, there is
the necessity to save selected combinations of parameters under defined names for their
further use. For this aim processing devices have preset windows. Then at any moment you
can restore combination of parameters saved before. You can save several tens of
parameters for every device creating total bank of possible versions of processing
operations. You can create presets bank not only on system disk but also on any other disk
(diskette). Thus, every user can create his own bank of presets on his diskette and use it
whenever he wants. |
| Saving system stage at any moment.
You can save system stage (all cuttings, labels, cross fades and so on) as a project under
the name you want. After loading the project you can continue your work just from the
moment you saved before. Several projects can be united in one, this gives the possibility
at any session to join the work of several operators. |
| Export of sound without physical re-recording.
Viennasound®
Digital
Stereo Station can export sound fragment or any its part to Play list program or
Multitrack station. It gives the possibility to use Stereo Station for editing of the materials which
will be afterwards used in Play list program or Viennasound®
Multitrack Station. As
all programs are written in a single environment there is no need of physical re-recording
of sound onto hard disk - various programs use the same initial
fragment. It considerably
economizes time and disk space. |
| Sync track monitoring and drop-in/out is possible
without destruction of the original recording. |
| Text-Archiving. You can tie text
keyed in to every sound fragment with the help of Text-Archiving
program. |
| |
| |
